Welcome to Dates with Divergence
WHO AM I?
Hello There! I am Camilla Pang—scientist, award-winning author, neurodiversity advocate, and TEDx speaker. A super geek who often finds themselves questioning the simple things other miss, yet forever catching up with social norms.

BOOKS
I love writing so much I find summarising very hard. I love detail, words and pictures.
My first book, Explaining Humans, won the 2020 Royal Society Science Book Prize, and I’ve since published two more, diving deeper into the intersections of science, psychology, and what it means to be human in times of change. My latest, Breakthrough, explores uncertainty, failure, and world-building through the lens of cutting-edge science.
Beyond the dry lab and writing, I care deeply about inclusion, sustainability, and empowering neurodivergent minds to thrive and have voice.
PIVOT!
I’m in the midst of a career pivot - and take my ‘ADHD job hopper stigma in my stride’. I’ve spent the past eight years working in sustainable innovation, using data science and biology to tackle complex problems 🌍 —think cancer research, reducing lab waste, and trying to reimagining a more circular economy in a disgustingly entrenched linear economy and convincing myself it will all be ok until burnout 😬 🔥. Read more here!
It was a LinkedIn dream, only to realise I was asking the right questions in the wrong role and system thinking means feeling powerless to make changes in as a researcher. 🫠
THIS SUBSTACK
Where all those threads come together—curiosity, connection, and the questions that shape us.
This Substack is an experiment in writing and thinking out loud. A place to share insights, explore change, and redefine what’s next. More than anything, I want to build a community of curious minds—people who are ready for change and de-growth, and ask basic questions which the world needs.
I am fascinated with the process of change and have created a substack series ‘Pivot heros’ A space featuring people who have changed careers or fields entirely and interviewed them about their process, to inspire change in others to make change feel less lonely to finally take leaps between the traditional altars of specialisms, skills and subjects.
Oh, and I’m also a proud poodle mum. 🐩
